Off Leash K9 Training Amarillo is rated 5.0 from 267 Google reviews, and we train dogs for families in Happy and across Swisher and Randall Counties.
Happy sits right on US-87 in northern Swisher County, close enough to the Randall County line that plenty of families here have one foot in each. It is a small town with a lot of open ground around it, which is a wonderful place to raise a dog and a hard place to get away with a dog that does not listen. We train Happy dogs at our Amarillo facility, about a thirty-minute run north on I-27, and send them home with obedience that actually works where you live.
Why professional training is essential for Happy dog owners
Behavior problems solved
Jumping, leash pulling, barking, anxiety and reactivity get addressed at the cause, not patched at the surface.
Safety and control
Out here a dog that ignores a recall can end up on a highway, in a pasture or in a fence line. Reliable obedience is a safety tool.
A dog that listens to you
Clear, consistent communication means your dog checks in with you for direction instead of making its own decisions.
Results that hold
Every program ends with a hands-on turnover session and daily video updates along the way, so the training comes home with your dog.
A calmer house
Greeting manners, door manners and place work make a real difference with kids, guests, and other animals in the home.

Built for how Happy dogs actually live
A dog in Happy has more room to make a bad decision than a dog in a subdivision. Gates get left open, delivery trucks pull up the drive, and there is livestock, farm equipment and a highway inside a short sprint of most yards. That is why we put the weight of every program on recall and on the place command. A dog that comes when it is called the first time, and that holds a down while you sort out a gate or a visitor, is a dog you can actually live with out here.
The drive is the part most people ask about first. Happy is about thirty miles from our Amarillo training facility, a straight run up I-27, which is roughly a half-hour each way. For board and train that drive happens twice: once to drop your dog off and once at the turnover session when we hand the training over to you. For private lessons you would make the trip for each session, so a lot of Happy families choose the board and train simply because it means fewer trips.
The wind and the wide-open ground here matter more for training than people expect. A dog that will heel in a quiet living room often falls apart the first time it is asked to work in a stiff Panhandle crosswind with a tractor running two fields over. We deliberately proof the commands against real distraction, and every board and train dog also goes out into stores and public spaces during its stay, so the obedience is not something that only exists in a training yard.
Where your dog will shine
- Quiet residential streets in town
- County roads and open ground outside the town limits
- Around gates, trucks and farm equipment on your own place
- Trips up I-27 to Canyon and Amarillo
- Visitors, family gatherings and the front door at home
“Small towns like Happy are exactly where a well-trained dog makes the biggest difference. There is more room, more livestock and more traffic to worry about than folks in town deal with, and a dog that will not come when it is called is a genuine problem, not just an annoyance. We are half an hour up the interstate and we work with families from all over the Panhandle every week. Call us and we will talk through what your dog actually needs before you spend a dollar.”

What Happy dog owners say
“Our pup came home leash trained, sitting, staying, and coming on command. When we feed him now he waits to eat when we tell him it's time. We sent our boy hoping to get just a little help with all the issues, he came home such a better dog!”
“Willow is my second Frenchie that I have put through the 2 week board and train and we couldn't be happier with our results! We are so blown away at how the training has helped to keep our household happy for both the dogs and us.”
“Logan was an excellent trainer. She helped my Golden Retriever and I reach our goals to help him gain confidence and obedience so he could become a certified therapy dog. Logan is extremely patient, knowledgeable and helpful when you hit hurdles in training.”
Frequently asked questions
How far is your training facility from Happy?
Our facility is at 8111 S Soncy Rd in southwest Amarillo, about thirty miles north of Happy on I-27, which is roughly a half-hour drive. Board and train dogs stay with us for the length of the program, so you make the drive at drop-off and again at the turnover session.
How old does my dog have to be to start training?
Dogs need to be 20 weeks or older for our standard obedience and board and train programs. For younger puppies we run a separate puppy track that starts at about 10 to 12 weeks, so there is no need to wait and let bad habits set in.
Do you come out to Happy for lessons?
Private lessons are run out of our Amarillo facility, so for lessons you would make the drive for each session. Because that adds up, most families out this way choose a board and train instead, which needs only the drop-off and the turnover session.
What does dog training cost?
Programs run from $625 for four private obedience lessons up to $5,400 for the four-week elite board and train, with the two-week board and train at $2,800 in the middle. Every price is published on our pricing page. Payment plans are available, so call us to talk through the options.
