ABOUT OUR TRAINERS
Meet The Off Leash K9 Team
Shelly - Head Trainer
Shelly – Head Trainer was raised on a farm/ranch operation located 15 miles East of Tulia, Texas. It was here that her love for animals of all kinds began. She raised and cared for a menagerie of pets and farm animals including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, sheep, pigs, horses and cattle, many of which were her very best friends. During this time she was an active member of 4-H and FFA, which she credits for cultivating her knowledge of animal husbandry.
In1994, Shelly received a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from West Texas A&M University and was offered a position as a Graduate Lab Instructor for the Department of Biology, where she taught for 4 years. She also spent 4 years as the High School Biology teacher at Arbor Christian Academy in Amarillo, Tx.
Shelly’s experiences and journey through life has opened the doors that allow her to work with one of her greatest loves, dogs! She is passionate about helping all dogs, whether they be rescues or full blood working lines by creating a structured, disciplined relationship between them and their owners. Let her show you how to unlock your dogs potential with obedience, respect and fun!
Shelly and her husband Jim, currently reside between Amarillo and Canyon, Tx. Their personal rescue pack currently includes Bella (Anatolian Shepherd mix), Nezzie (Pitbull mix), and their latest addition, Ellie Mae (Staffordshire Terrier mix).
Randy - Trainer
Hi, my name is Randy. I am proud to be a part of Off Leash K9 Training Amarillo. Working with dogs is a big passion of mine. I love what I do and get so much out of my job. I especially love seeing a dog owner develop a stronger bond with their more obedient dog.
Crystal - Trainer
Howdy, I’m Crystal…born and raised in Tulia, TX. I’m a lover of Christ, people, and animals. I’m the oldest of 2 kids and a homeschool graduate.
After finishing high school, I went into the AIM program in Lubbock and was sent to Northern Ireland. While I was there I began to work with special needs children at the Coleraine RDA (Riding for Disabilities). Upon my return, I had goals were to work with the elderly/veterans as well as horses and dogs.
I spent some time caring for the elderly in their homes before becoming a dog trainer, and now I love being able to teach dogs and their humans every day.
Laina - Trainer
Laina is an electrician’s wife and mother to a boisterous 4 year old. She was born in Lubbock, raised in Amarillo. Laina graduated from Tascosa High School and moved to Canada for a year before returning home. After a short couple of years back in Amarillo, she then moved to Denmark for about 10 years before returning to Canada to settle down. After her son was born, she returned to Amarillo to be closer to family and soon began working for a local veterinarian.
She’s always loved animals and when she was 2 years old she knew she wanted to work with them. She’s currently teaching both basic and advanced lessons while training her own service dog, Severin.
Laina loves what she does and has a strong background in leadership and customer service. When you call in to speak to someone, you’ll likely hear her voice on the other end of the line.
Josh - Trainer
Starting out with dog training I knew this was the best career for me. The best thing about working with these amazing dogs is getting to see every milestone they reach while here at Off Leash K9 Training.
Whether it is a 2-week board and train or working in our training facility doing lessons, I love being able to change dogs’ and owners’ lives for the better with our obedience training. Another reason I absolutely love training dogs (especially the two week board and train program) is I get to experience having a new dog and learning about each of their individual personalities every two weeks!
Here is to working your amazing pups and training them to be the best they can be all while joining the OLK9 Pack!
Kurrie - Trainer
Dogs have always been a passion of mine. Ever since I was a little ten-year-old girl visiting sea world and watching the “Pets Rule” dog show, I knew I always wanted to be a dog trainer. Thanks to Off Leash K9 Training that dream came true!
I now have a few pups of my own (Bonnie the GSD, Bosco the Black lab/Blue heeler) that I have personally trained. Our favorite activity to do (while being 100% off-leash) is going to the lake while swimming and chasing the tennis ball!
Being a professional dog trainer has taught me a lot within these past couple of years. Training has taught me how to be patient, understanding, and more outgoing to my amazing training pups and their owners! One of the many amazing things about dog training is watching an owner and their pup come into training nervous and unsure. Then during training, I get to watch their confidence rise and see an amazing bond being built.
I love training dogs of every breed and I feel very blessed and lucky to be a part of this dog training team here in Amarillo, TX.
