Most dogs are trained so that life at home gets easier. A few are trained because somebody else is going to need them.

Where Rico Started
Rico is an Aussiedoodle, and his owner had a specific plan for him. Rico is going to be a therapy dog for children in foster care. That is a demanding job for a dog. It means being steady around strangers, in unfamiliar rooms, on days when the person he is there for is having the worst day of their week.
None of that is possible without an obedience foundation first. So that is where they started.
The Training Journey
Rico went through a two-week board and train with Logan. His owner describes three things she noticed. Logan sent daily videos. She answered every question. And at the turnover, when the training is handed from the trainer back to the owner, she spent as long as it took to make sure his owner felt confident being a team with her own dog.
That last part is the whole point of the handoff session, and it matters more here than almost anywhere. A therapy dog is only ever half the team.
Rico’s Wins
His owner says she does not have the words for the difference she has seen in him since the two weeks. What she does have is the thing she needed most: the confidence that she and Rico can be successful together in serving foster youth. She is looking forward to the comfort he will be able to give those kids.
What It Changed for His Family
An owner who wanted to do something meaningful with her dog now knows she can. The plan stopped being an idea and became a next step.
Why Rico’s Story Matters
We see a lot of dogs in Amarillo who are being trained for a purpose beyond the living room, and the honest answer is always the same: the purpose comes after the obedience, never instead of it. A dog who cannot hold a stay in a quiet room cannot hold one in a room full of children. Rico did the unglamorous part first.
